Title:
Scalable Video with Motion-JPEG2000

Presenter:
Dr Michael Lee, Senior Research Scientist,

Date:
November 23, 2005

Abstract:
Abstract

JPEG2000 was designed to offer low bit-rate operation, error resilience, and superior image quality & flexibility compared to its predecessor, JPEG. At the CSIRO ICT Centre, we are currently building an HD-quality video conferencing system based on Motion-JPEG2000, and will further extend the system to scalable video applications. This talk will show how such scalable video can be achieved using a software tool, called Scalability Manager, which can control the scalability levels of Motion-JPEG2000 codestreams to be flexibly adapted to different bandwidth capacities and device requirements.

Bio

Dr MICHAEL LEE is a Senior Research Scientist at the CSIRO ICT Centre. Before joining CSIRO in 2000, he has worked for MediaWare, which is an expert company developing compressed digital video systems in Canberra. He has also worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Western Australia, where he received his PhD degree in 1995. Dr Lee has an interest in content-based video analysis, scalable video coding, and latest video coding standards, such as MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. He published many papers in the areas of multimedia, image/video coding and visual communications.
