Title:
Content Distribution Network as a PVN Application

Presenter:
Thanh Vinh Nguyen

Date:
June 14, 2002

Abstract:
This presentation will explore the possibility of using a Programmable Virtual Network (PVN) to provide the Content Distribution Service. We believe that such application promises many benefits. On the one hand, the network resource "go-hire" paradigm (as opposed to deploying your own network equipment) is expected to ease the capital and labour requirement to deploy and operate Content Distribution Networks (CDN). On the other hand, the programmable network's ability to dynamically adjust network resource allocations (including topologies, computation power, storage, link bandwidth ...) will allow CDNs to cope with demand fluctuationswithout resorting to over dimensioning.

The presentation will also describe the current stage of research in this project - provisioning of a CDN in PVN environment. The model currently built for this problem and heuristic search algorithms being developed will be discussed.
